Thoughts on Matthew 24

Matthew 24 1Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. 2But he answered them, "You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down."
Fulfilled: The temple was completely destroyed in 70AD

5For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will lead many astray.
Fulfilled : 2 Peter 2:1 Acts 5:36 Acts 8:9-10 1 John 2:18

6And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet.
Fulfilled: Flavius Josephus wrote extensively about Roman history and the Jewish Wars. There were constant rebellions from approximately 66-70 AD in and around Jerusalem. In the Annals of Tacitus, a Roman who wrote a history which covers the period prior to 70 A. D., we find such expressions as these: "Disturbances in Germany," "commotions in Africa," "commotions in Thrace," "insurrections in Gaul," "intrigues among the Parthians," "the war in Britain," "war in Armenia.

"7For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
Fulfilled: Josephus says, "At Caesarea in AD 59 the Jews and Syrians contended about the right to the city, and twenty thousand Jews were slain." At Scythopolis, over 13,000 Jews were killed. Thousands were killed in other places, and at Alexandria 50,000 were killed. At Damascus, 10,000 were killed in an hour's time. Acts 11:28 Tacitus speaks of a "failure in the crops, and a famine consequent thereupon." Eusebius also mentions famines during this time in Rome, Judea, and Greece.

A pestilence is a the spread of disease, epidemics. Famine and pestilence go hand in hand. Pestilence is often caused by famine. Suetonius wrote of "pestilence" at Rome in the days of Nero which was so severe that "within the space of one autumn there died no less than 30,000 persons." Josephus records that pestilences raged in Babylonia in A. D. 40. Tacitus tells of pestilences in Italy in A. D. 65.
Tacitus mentions earthquakes at Rome. He wrote, "Frequent earthquakes occurred, by which many houses were thrown down," and "twelve populous cities of Asia fell in ruins from an earthquake."
Seneca, writing in the year 58 A. D., said, "How often have cities of Asia and Achaea fallen with one fatal shock! How many cities have been swallowed up in Syria! How many in Macedonia! How often has Cyprus been wasted by this calamity ! How often has Paphos become a ruin! News has often been brought us of the demolition of whole cities at once." In 60 A.D., Hierapous, Colosse, and

Laodicea were overthrown from earthquakes. There were earthquakes in Crete, Apamea, Smyrna, Miletus, Chios, Samos, and Judea. Earthquakes in diverse places! Acts 16:25-26

9"Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake.
Fullfilled: Acts 4:3 Acts 16:23-24 2 Corinthians 11:24

10And then many will fall away[a] and betray one another and hate one another.
Fullfilled: Acts 9:23-24 Acts 9:29

11And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. 13But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
Fullfilled: 2 Corinthians 11:13 1 John 4:1 Revelation 2:4

14And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Fullfilled: Colossians 1:5-6 Colossians 1:23 Romans 1:8 Romans 16:25-26

Now did these things take place or not? Scripture says it why is it so hard for some to believe? In my opinion as well as other learned scholars the term “ the end will come” refers to the end on the Jewish age or Old Covenant. For those of you who are viewing this passage as a reference to things that must take place prior to the tribulation, I believe you are correct; however the dis-agreement comes in that I believe that the great tribulation already took place in the years leading up to 70AD.
Romans 8:35 Romans 12:12 Revelation 1:9 Revelation 2:8-10 I believe that Revelation 19 sums up the destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD, with God's Word being pictured during that time as well by stating "The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war . . . which he is called The Word of God."
There's not much more to wait for in my opinion. I am looking for the
consummation of the kingdom and an eternity with the Lord.
